Frequently Asked Questions
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a method of hands-on healing that was developed in Japan in the early 20th century. The word Reiki means universal life energy, the same gentle healing source referred to as chi in China and prana in India. The practitioner holds the intention that the highest good be served, and brings their focus away from their thoughts, to facilitate the flow of healing energy.
How does a person receive Reiki?
The person receiving Reiki lies fully clothed on a comfortable table and just relaxes. My office is in a yoga and bodywork center with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Reiki is well-suited for any environment, so for those who are home-bound or in the hospital, it is useful in healing and is complementary to medical treatment. Often the person receiving it feels a sensation of warmth, ease, and deep relaxation. Receiving Reiki can be a meditative experience that helps one to release the bonds of emotional issues, anxiety, and stress.
How can Reiki help my pet or my horse?
Animals can tell what is beneficial to their body and energy field; they usually visibly relax and invite this gentle system of touch. Reiki can help an animal to feel more balanced and comfortable, and thus able to heal and adjust. Reiki can also be done at the edge of the energy field, that is, several feet away or outside the fence, if the animal does not want someone to come close.
I believe that the bond between an owner and his or her animal is so special, that we can sense and feel uplifted ourselves by how our animal feels. When our animal is balanced we can feel it, and this helps bring peace to everybody's experience.
My services are not a substitute for veterinary care.
What is your experience with horses?
In my past career as a park ranger, I had the occasional opportunity to ride horses to access backcountry areas. For the last several years I have been working and volunteering at ranches. I assist with children's horseback riding lessons, therapeutic riding lessons, and do general ranch work involved in caring for horses. I have studied the Masterson Method of Equine Bodywork, and I have been practicing Reiki on horses for two years. I am an intermediate rider myself and have been taking equine science classes and English and western riding lessons.
What is your experience with other animals?
I grew up with dogs and cats. I have one of each now, and two chickens. My animals are precious members of the family and they have taught me a lot.
